Leukemia Researcher Awarded by Canadian Cancer Society

The Canadian Cancer Society has named OCI Scientist Dr. Aaron Schimmer as the recipient of the Bernard and Francine Dorval prize. The award is given to a promising young Canadian investigator who began their independent research within the last ten years and whose research has the potential to lead to better understanding of cancer, improved cancer treatments, cures or new advances in cancer control.
Dr. Schimmer is recognized for his research into drug discovery for the treatment of leukemia was the basis for the award. Using automated methods, he developed new tools to improve our understanding of biological vulnerabilities in leukemia cells and identify targets for drug development. He has already advanced three drugs into clinical trials for patients with leukemia and related blood disorders.
