We are at a "tipping point"
Every patient is unique. Every patient's cancer is different. So it follows that individualized treatment will get the best results.

With this in mind, The Princess Margaret has embarked on a BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE to create the new gold standard of cancer care: Personalized Cancer Medicine for patients at The Princess Margaret, across Canada and around the world. This exciting initiative will raise $1 Billion in the next five years to fund the most cutting edge research that will have greatest impact on patients, and take us closer to our vision: To Conquer Cancer in Our Lifetime.

We live in the Golden Age of cancer research. We are at a “tipping point”. Recent advances in genetics – including the ability to decode cancer genes – are enabling a more customized approach, combining a better understanding of each patient’s type of cancer and how that patient is likely to respond to particular therapies. In other words, finding the right treatment for the right patient at the right time. This is Personalized Cancer Medicine – a field in which Canada is poised to lead the world!

The Princess Margaret Hospital has an international reputation as a global leader in the fight against cancer and is considered one of the top five comprehensive cancer treatment and research centres in the world. None of this would be possible without the generous support, commitment and dedication of our donors and our community.

The Princess Margaret definition of Personalized Cancer Medicine encompasses four main themes:

1) DETECT – finding cancers earlier
2) DIAGNOSE – analyzing cancers more precisely
3) TARGET – targeting treatment more specifically
4) SUPPORT – providing comprehensive physical and emotional support

We have the vision, the leadership, the track record and the passion. Now we need $1 Billion to create and deliver a model for Personalized Cancer Medicine for patients at The Princess Margaret, across Canada and around the world. Believe it.
